We welcome everyone to the Cavalaire, irrespective of age, race, class, sexual orientation or disability. We aim to cater for the needs of visitors generally not requiring wheelchair access. The following is a summary of our provision. All our staff are aware of and sensitive to the needs of people with disabilities we welcome all questions and are always pleased to help and assist wherever we can.
There is a very good bus service to all areas of Brighton the nearest bus stop is just around the corner on Edward street and at the bottom of Upper Rock Gardens about 100 metres away. The train station is 10-15 minutes away by car. Most local taxi services have accessible cars we can arrange a booking for you.
We have a website in English, French, German and Spanish and whilst we do not produce printed brochures we can send hard copies of any part of the site or we can tell you about our accommodation on the telephone.

We are at the top of a slight hill heading up from the promenade.
There is 'Pay-and-Display' on-street parking immediately outside our property. We can arrange reserved parking (limited availability) for you via a third party at additional cost - please contact us prior to your arrival if you wish to use this service.
Our property is accessed via a path which is one step up from the pavement about 20 cm high there is no gate.
The path is level with a further 3 steps each about 12 cm high up to the front entrance where the is a small brass doorstep 8 cm high - access to our reception is NOT suitable for wheelchairs.
We have had guest’s stay that use a wheelchair as conveyance but who are also able to negotiate stairs on foot with assistance.
We always help with luggage
The front door which is 99 cm wide is covered by a canopy and leads into a porch with a further inner door 86 cm wide, this is always locked but we do have a push button bell which is easily reached. There are no grab rails available. There is no public toilet but we are pleased to make our staff toilet on the ground floor available upon request.
The hallway has accessible width of 77 cm at it's narrowest point seating is available in the reception guest lounge just 3 meters on the right. The hall is carpeted throughout and there is exposed oak floor-boarding in the reception area/guest sitting room.
We have 10 rooms located over 5 floors. There are no rooms on the ground floor, 2 rooms on the lower ground floor, 3 on each of the first and second floors and a further 2 rooms on the top floor. There are 15 steps to room one on the first landing, a further 3 steps to the half landing and rooms 2 and 3. there is a total of 53 standard height steps to the top of the house from the ground floor including 3 half landings.
The rooms on the lower ground floor are accessed via a well lit internal staircase, there are 14 steps down from the ground floor hallway. All stairways have firm handrails or grab handles.
All internal stairs and corridors are carpeted with deep pile carpets, they are well lit with bright clean decor throughout.
There are 4 large rooms all at the front of the house. On the lower ground floor a room which can be either a large double (6' wide bed) or a twin (2 X 3' singles), a Four Poster bed on the first and second floor (beds are 5' wide) and a triple room (4' 6" double + 1 X 3' single bed) on the top floor.
Please note that all other rooms are double rooms (beds are a standard 4' 6" width) with limited floor space. All rooms have en suite shower facilities which again are limited for space and three are very small modular wet rooms. There are larger shower rooms in all of the rooms at the front of the house including a walk-in shower in the four poster room on the first floor.
En suite shower facilities in rooms 10 and 11 on the lower ground floor have entrances with standard door width opening out. All sanitary ware is of a standard make and height, room 11 shower door opens out room 10 is concertina door opening inward non slip matts are provided. Both rooms are fitted with fire bell in the room and red flashing strobe light which are activated in conjunction with the fire alarm.
En suite facilities to the first floor rooms 1,2 and 3 (four poster room) are medium, small and large. Non slip shower mats provided. En suite facilities in the second floor rooms 5, 6 and 7 (four poster room) are medium, small and standard, non slip shower mats provided. On the 3rd floor room 8 and 9 (triple double + single bed) shower rooms are small and large, no slip shower mats provided.
There are no grab rails in any of our shower rooms. There are remote flat panel TV in all rooms with teletext as standard.
The breakfast room and the reception / guest lounge are on the ground floor and have stripped wood flooring with loose rugs in each room. There are fresh flowers in all public areas
Breakfast is served in the breakfast room on the ground floor. Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request, Dinning Tables are 65 cm x 65 cm with one central leg and have under-space of 70 cm. Chairs are of a standard height without arms.
Menus are provided in large print but we are always pleased to take time to go through the menu with any guest and provide a verbal list of all available options. With advance notice we are pleased to cater for any special dietary requirement including vegan, dairy-free, wheat-free and gluten-free. We play light classical music in the breakfast room There are always fresh flowers on the dinning tables.
Assistance dogs are welcome but unfortunately we cannot welcome your favourite pet. Please note that we have a pet Airedale Terrier (with hair not fur for those worried about allergies) who is very friendly but slightly territorial with some other dogs.
We provide Free wireless internet connection in every room, mobile phone reception is generally very good. We have a formal professionally prepared fire risk assessment plan in place. We have fire evacuation plans which are checked and rehearsed at regular intervals. Should you require assistance with evacuation please let us know on arrival and we will ensure you are evacuated safely.
We are strictly a NO SMOKING establishment - smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises.
Some rooms do have fridges which can be used for storage of medication but we can arrange for storage of medicine overnight in our larger fridge (not accessible 24 hours). We have access to our local GP during the day and at night through the Brightdoc out of hours system. We are only half a mile from the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Public parks are nearby, The beach is a short walk from our guest house we are within easy walking distance of all major Brighton attractions and the conference centres. We are very close to all local attractions including The Royal Pavilion, The Pier, The Sea Life Centre and the Marina which is a 30 - 40 minute walk away - we will be pleased to let you have literature for all attractions as well as local maps.
