“B&B’s occupy every other address in this street… but the Cavalaire is the Pavilion to their garden sheds… If you live in a beautifully decorated house with light airy rooms that contain trendy furniture and four poster beds, then staying here will genuinely be a home from home”
Gilly Smith & Lucy Shuttleworth, The Juicy Guide to Brighton & Hove, UK

“The Cavalaire, bed and breakfast built in 1888 for retired clergy, prides itself for the original art works, most commemorating a Brighton of bygone years… a postmodern mood as well with their contemporary, colorful and geometrically designed bedroom décor”   M Wolberg, Dan’s Papers, USA

"My favourite hotel on Upper Rock Gardens...... The rooms are pleasant and bright, the bathrooms are clean..internet access, fancy soaps and four poster beds”
David Bramwell, The Cheeky Guide to Brighton, UK

“Vegetarian English breakfast… or a tropical fruit concoction. Book online for this reasonably priced, non-smoking, pleasant bed and breakfast”
Jo Lacey, Viva! Guide to Vegetarian Brighton, UK

“Contemporary, colorful"   Dan’s Papers, USA.

We have not one bad word to say about the Cavalaire.

From the moment we walked in the service was first class and friendly.

The room was very spacious and very luxurious with loads of lovely little touches.

I was ill for most of our stay, so whilst my wife was out and about enjoying brighton, I spent all my time in the room.

In most cases this would have got me down in the dumps. However with a selection of about 800 of Dereks DVDs to choose from and a well stocked fridge and mini bar I had a great time!!!!

Breakfast was really really good, cooked to order by fellow owner Garry. All produce was of high quality. The bacon and cooked vine tomatoes were extremely delicious!!

Location is great too, about 5 mins walk to the centre but just round the corner from kemptown with lots of lovely restaurants and bars.

Highly recommended!!!

“Wonderful place!”

Where to start!? Stayed at this wonderful hotel with a couple of my friends last weekend - and really don't have a bad word to say!

Derek and Garry have the most wonderful place! Perfectly renovated and with real love and attention to detail. We had their one triple room up on the 5th floor (Room 9) - OK so the stairs kept us fit - but it was worth every step! Fantastic room - sea views (looking sideways) and lovely bathroom with great shower. Think they plan to convert this room into another gorgeous 4 poster room (we had a peek in some of their other 4 poster rooms - WOW!)

Derek and Garry will openly admit that they are the most expensive property on the street - but I really do think it is worth it! Fantastic location within Kemptown area - short stroll down to the Pavilion, Lanes, North Laine etc. Perfect. Plenty of places to eat and drink a short walk away.

Breakfast room is lovely - and a fantastic spread! Help yourself to yoghurt, cereal, fresh fruit, juice etc - and a nice choice of hot breakfasts. I had scrambled egg and gorgeous smoked salmon (YUM!) one day and the English Breakfast the next. Both of a very high standard. Toast was made from lovely bread.

And then there is Buffy!! The house dog! She is beautiful and made us very welcome! I'd have squashed her in my bag to take her home with me if she'd sat still for a moment! :o)

I will definitly return! This time dragging my husband down to the seaside to sample the hospitality!!

“A little gem of a place..”

A warm, incredibly welcoming and friendly small hotel. From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome.

A very clean hotel with those extra little touches that make your stay even more special. Lots of fresh flowers and information about brighton. Derek and Garry are always available to give you info on where is good to eat. Took their advice on a couple of restaurants and the food was delicious.

The room and hotel were spotlessly clean. Beds really comfortable and everything you need for your stay in the room even umbrellas if it rains.

Can't wait to go back into the warm and glowing atmosphere that both Derek and Garry work so hard and love to achieve.

I would highly recommend that you stay at the Cavalaire Hotel. I do not think you will be dissapointed.
