("Gold and silver awards are given to hotels and guest accommodation that provide exceptional quality in all areas but in particular in service and hospitality").
The Cavalaire "Rooms are particularly well appointed, soft furnishings are luxurious with a wide range of accessories thoughtfully provided. The newly fitted showers rooms present particularly well, high quality toiletries enhance."

Hotel Inspector report, Visit Britain QIT 8th May 2007

“B&B’s occupy every other address in this street… but the Cavalaire is the Pavilion to their garden sheds… If you live in a beautifully decorated house with light airy rooms that contain trendy furniture and four poster beds, then staying here will genuinely be a home from home”
Gilly Smith & Lucy Shuttleworth, The Juicy Guide to Brighton & Hove, UK

“The Cavalaire, bed and breakfast built in 1888 for retired clergy, prides itself for the original art works, most commemorating a Brighton of bygone years… a postmodern mood as well with their contemporary, colorful and geometrically designed bedroom décor”   M Wolberg, Dan’s Papers, USA

"My favourite hotel on Upper Rock Gardens, the Cavalaire offers an unusual tropical breakfast… and a host of other goodies (but if you prefer, you can opt for the fry up instead). The rooms are pleasant and bright, the bathrooms are clean..internet access, fancy soaps and four poster beds”
David Bramwell, The Cheeky Guide to Brighton, UK

“Vegetarian English breakfast… or a tropical fruit concoction. Book online for this reasonably priced, non-smoking, pleasant bed and breakfast”
Jo Lacey, Viva! Guide to Vegetarian Brighton, UK

“Contemporary, colorful"   Dan’s Papers, USA.

"Is it a hotel or is it a B&B?"

The Cavalaire is in between the two as it's more of a B&B but calls itself a hotel. It is modern but with charm and beautifully furnished and looked after. The bedrooms have more cushions and pillows on each bed than I have in the whole of my house! No complaints on equipment or facilities available as the rooms have all the normal requirements and more. The shower was a bit small but it was clean, modern and had lovely soft towels.

Breakfast is substantial and is cooked to order in the well appointed
breakfast room. All supervised by the two friendly hosts.

The only down side in the whole stay is when you come to pay the bill. I just don't understand why it is that rooms are so expensive. £75 for a double room, including breakfast, works out at around £400 for five nights. I could have had a week in the Algarve, full board for that. That's no criticism on the owners just a reflection on the British idea for B&B/hotel pricing.

"The Best Place to Stay in Brighton"

Customer service was the best of any hotel we have stayed at in England. Derek and Gary are excellent hosts and the vegetarian breakfasts are brilliant. Rooms are very well decorated and cleanliness and attention to detail second to none. If you are in Brighton this is the only place to stay! Make a bee line for the Cavalaire.

"definitely go back"

Went for a one-night break before new baby arrives. Gary and Dereck were both so helpful, upgraded us to a room with a bigger bathroom because i was 8 mths pregnant. Greeted us with a beer for hubby and lovely orange juice for me, helped us find a parking space, recommended an excellent Italian restaurant around the corner, and cooked us a lovely big breakfast in the morning. The hotel has a lovely feel to it with different bits of art on the wall, and they have done a great job refurbishing the place. A brilliant stay and have already recommended to many friends, will definitely be back!

Hi Derek,

It was a pleasure to meet you too and I have to say that we were most impressed with the standard of service you gave our customers and I was particularly impressed with the quality of your rooms.

I will "spread the word" amongst our business colleagues and hope to meet you again in the not too distant future.

Best regards

"A Great Find!"

Booked for a Friday night stay. Gary was was very welcoming, sorted out a parking space for us and welcomed us with a glass of wine and a beer! The room (no. 10) had been newly refurbished along with others and was extremly comfortable. Lovely big bed, lots of hanging space, flat screen tv, mini fridge, tea & coffe facilities and clean compact en-suite shower with toiletries. After our night out woke to a selection of fresh fruit, cereals, fruit juice, as much tea & toast with an organic english breakfast - delicious! We stay in Brighton often but couldn't get in to our usual hotel so booked here on the off chance, what a lovely surprise (Yes, we fell on our feet)! The web site does not do this hotel justice. Apparently a new site is in the making to show the refurbishment, it's a great find and this will now be our new Brigton place! I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

"A Real Gem!"

Along with 5 other girls, I stayed at the Cavalaire for a friend's hen weekend. Our weekend was made all the more special by the fabulous hospitality of Derek and Gary. They went out of their way to welcome us and advise us on where to go and their advice was great! They booked a restaurant for us, chilled our champagne, nothing was too much trouble for them. They are two truly lovely people who took a genuine interest in making sure we had a perfect weekend!

The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and the rooms are immaculate. The breakfast was divine, exactly what we needed after a night out in Brighton! I would not hesitate to recommend the Cavalaire and we all commented that we would love to stay there again with our boyfriends/husbands.

"Comfortable & friendly."

A pleasant comfortable stay; the room was very clean & neat, the proprietors were friendly and accommodating, the hearty breakfast will get you started in the morning (loved the coffee).

Recommended.

"Best for Business Accommodation in Brighton"

Normally the company would use one of the larger chains of hotels for business accommodation, but on this occasion all the usual hotels were full. So on opting for a smaller hotel I was slightly anxious...

Derek and Gary reassured me that everything would be of a high standard and even recommended a restaurant and arranged taxis for the evening. All in all it was a great success, the rooms were fabulous...

Next time we have an event in Brighton I would without doubt book the Cavalaire - if they have vacancies!!
